HCSN Theory

Hierarchical Causal Structure Networks

A framework for emergent physics from discrete causal structure.

Overview

This repository explores how physical phenomena—geometry, particles, forces, and quantum behavior—may emerge from minimal assumptions about causality and local evolution rules on hypergraphs.

HCSN starts with:

  • Discrete events and directed causal relations
  • Local probabilistic rewrite rules
  • No background spacetime
  • No predefined symmetries

From these foundations, the theory aims to derive:

  • Emergent time (rewrite depth)
  • Emergent geometry and dimension
  • Particle-like objects (persistent defects)
  • Interaction mechanisms
  • Quantum-like behavior (statistical, not postulated)

Repository Structure

Canonical Theory Documents

The theory is documented in four consolidated files:

  1. docs/01_axioms_and_methodology.md
Minimal axiom set and methodological principles

  2. docs/02_defects_worldlines_and_particles.md
    Emergent objects and operational identity

  3. docs/03_emergent_dynamics_momentum_and_interaction.md
Motion, momentum, mass, and interaction without spacetime

  4. docs/04_geometry_dimension_uncertainty_and_limits.md
Large-scale structure, phase transitions, and theory boundaries

Archived Documents

  • docs/archive/ — Earlier drafts, superseded content, and historical versions

⚠️ This repository contains no simulation code.
All numerical evidence and experiments are maintained separately.

Philosophy

This is a theory in formation, not a finished model. It documents:

  • What has been observed in simulation
  • What has been derived from axioms
  • What remains open or speculative

Claims are graded by empirical support. Speculation is labeled as such.

All definitions appear once in the canonical documents. Duplication has been eliminated.

Status

Refactored: February 2026
Core concepts consolidated. Physical correspondence remains conjectural.

See MANIFESTO.md for motivations.
