Hi everyone, we’re excited to share that we’ve completed the category restructure of GitHub Community Discussions. This update is designed to make it easier to find the right place to ask questions, share ideas, and connect with one another.

Based on the plan we shared previously, we focused on making categories more theme-based, creating clearer starting points for new and returning members. Plus, we've set up a community hub for more casual, friendly chats so members can connect and share ideas.
We have also consolidated several categories such as General, Feed, Lists, Profile, Sponsors, Models, and Code Search and Navigation into the new “Other Feature Feedback, Questions, and Ideas.” You can select these newly grouped topics in the discussion template. If none are suitable, please choose “Other” and we will review these submissions over the coming weeks to help us add/remove labels if required.
Along with updating categories, we’ve improved our community workflows and added new processes to make triage and moderation more efficient, and to standardize discussion types and topic areas. This makes it easier to spot rising interest and triage discussions appropriately. We’ve also added an auto-close workflow for discussions that weren’t created using our templates (for example, posts created via the API), since consistent formatting is needed for our automations and moderation tools to work effectively.
All these updates lay the groundwork for future work for reducing spam and improving overall post quality. 💪
Over the coming weeks, we’re planning to introduce agentic workflows focused on auto-labelling and spam detection, so we can keep discussions organized and help everyone get to answers faster. More on that when they are activated.
We’re excited to see how the community continues to grow with these changes. We hope the new structure makes it simpler to explore topics, discover helpful threads, and share more of yourselves, so everyone can feel a stronger sense of belonging here.
We’d love your feedback
Tell us what works, what’s unclear, or what you’d like added. This helps us keep everything organised.
If you notice any broken links when navigating the community or the updated categories, please let us know in the comments and include where you found it and what you expected to see. 🔗
Carried over from our initial announcement (we’ve summarized these here to keep this discussion as the source of truth going forward):
Thanks for helping make this community a welcoming and useful space for everyone. ❤️
